How to get more Google reviews (without breaking the rules)
Eight practical ways for a local business to get more Google reviews — when to ask, what to say, which channel to use, and what Google doesn't allow.

Most customers who had a good experience would leave a review — they just don't think of it. The businesses with hundreds of reviews aren't luckier; they ask every customer, at the right moment, with as little effort as possible.
1. Ask every customer, not just the happy ones
Google's policies don't allow review gating — asking only customers you expect to be happy, or filtering unhappy ones away. Ask everyone. It's also better for you: a profile with an honest mix of reviews is more trusted than a wall of perfect scores.
2. Ask at the right moment
The best time is shortly after the experience, while it's still fresh:
| Business | When to ask |
|---|---|
| Café or restaurant | 1–2 hours after the visit |
| Salon, spa, clinic | The same afternoon or evening |
| Home services, garage | When the job is finished or the car collected |
| Gym or studio | After the first two or three weeks |
3. Make it one tap
Every extra step loses people. Send a direct link that opens the review form — not your website, and not a search for your name. In Kubeuron, every request opens your review page, where the customer picks Google or another site in one tap.
4. Use the channel customers actually read
Text messages are opened far more often than email, which makes SMS and WhatsApp the best channels for appointment-based businesses. Email works well for customers who booked online or prefer it. Use whatever contact details you already have.
5. Keep the message short and personal
Use the customer's first name, mention the visit, ask once, and say thank you. Two or three sentences is enough. See our review request templates for examples you can copy.
6. Never offer anything in return
Discounts, freebies or prize draws in exchange for reviews break Google's rules and can get reviews removed. A sincere thank-you is all you need.
7. Reply to the reviews you get
Replying shows future customers that you're listening, and it encourages more people to write. Reply to positive reviews too — briefly and by name. Our guide on responding to negative reviews covers the hard ones.
8. Make it a habit, not a campaign
A burst of reviews followed by silence looks odd and fades fast. A steady trickle — every customer, every week — keeps your profile fresh. Automate it: in Kubeuron a workflow asks every new customer after the delay you choose, so nobody has to remember.
Quick checklist
- Ask every customer, shortly after their visit
- Send a direct, one-tap link
- Use SMS or WhatsApp where you can
- Keep it short, personal and incentive-free
- Reply to every review
- Automate the ask so it never stops
